ICI’s 2nd Smart Tools Battle for Effective Competitive & Market Intelligence

FAVORITE TOOLS FOR COMPETITIVE/MARKET INTELLIGENCE 2022

Many CI/MI professionals struggle to get their job done – given the high complexity and a heavy workload!
The good news is that there are many smart tools for supporting individuals to automate CI/MI routine jobs or for extending the number of tasks that individuals can handle.

In our Smart Tools Battle spring 2022, five CI/MI professionals demonstrated their favorite tools.
This time we had a focus on CI Research, Knowledge Management, Analytic Writing and Forecasting.

Is it for you?

Do you struggle to find relevant data on Chinese websites or don’t know how to translate them effectively?

Estelle Prin, a geopolitical advisor and professor at Université Paris Dauphine, showed all the tricks and special settings how to translate Chinese websites and search the Chinese web very effectively, using different Google Translator tools She also indicated how to avoid typical pitfalls for Non-Chinese.

Do you need to organize your research findings and analysis in a structured and easy to digest way? Both you’re your audience or clients and for yourself?

Sascha Klamp, Innovation Manager at Treffert GmbH and Werner Braun, Competitive Intelligence Manager at Sanofi, showed how they use WIKI tools for knowledge management. While both tools have very similar functionality at first glance, looking into the details they have very different strength and weaknesses.
But there is no definite winner. LexiCan, presented by Sascha Klamp, has a very easy to use interface and a straight-forward way of structuring, filtering and presenting results or reports. TiddlyWiki, presented by Werner Braun allows to compile reports from smaller information bits, and has some advanced features to customize and design reports.

Do you need an archive of resources and findings? And do you need a structured way of creating and updating reports from your findings?

Then Citavi might be the right tool for you. Rainer Michaeli showed how to use this tool when writing analytical reports. Citavi helps to connect sources to conclusions in your report and vice versa. Basically Citavi offers everything to create CI/MI reports: A structured archive for your sources/references, relationship of these sources to the key intelligence topics/questions and your conclusions, tagging, ideas handling, and an automated export to MS Word. It even includes some basic project management features!

Do you need to forecast new products or markets and lack a statistics degree in statistical forecasting?
No problem, Forecast Pro does the hard part for you. If you have historical data, it selects and fits the right statistical model for you and creates accurate forecasts with just a click. What if you have none or few data points? Thorsten Bill demonstrated how Forecast Pro can fit forecast to reference market/products or analogous curves or can fit your data to classic curves like s-curves, hype cycles and many more.
