Does your company need a Competitive/Market Intelligence Center?
When talking about a CI/MI centers we always envision a kind of war room, where comprehensive and very structured battlefield information is displayed on big screens. Isn’t that an unrealistic metaphor compared to what your CI department looks like?
Well it is an unrealistic metaphor from the perspective, that CI is usually done in dark heavily protected rooms and that it’s all about surveillance of every step of your competitor(s) on the competitive battlefield.
But the metaphor is right in the sense that your company simply needs competitor and market information to support decisions - as structured, consistent, timely and relevant as possible for the decisions to be made. And achieving this with limited time and resources is not easy.How-to engage decision makers? How-to promote the internal CI function? How to build up a network of internal and external sources? How can software help to manage all these tasks?
If you know the answers to these questions, you will know what your “CI-Center” needs to look like.
So start asking the right questions before you start designing something that does not fit your company. A good start for that will be our
Workshop: ICI-24 - Design and Operation of an In-house CI Center.
