Dr. Björn Jürgens is senior analyst at the patent information centre of the Innovation and Development Agency of Andalusia, a major public institution dedicated to innovation fostering in Southern Spain.

He has worked for more than 15 years in the field of patent analytics and competitive intelligence and has extensive practical experience in Open Source intelligence. He is expert lecturer in the PATLIB network of the European Patent Office and the Enterprise Europe Network from the European Commission, ambassador for Spain at the EU IP helpdesk and member of the patent landscaping group of the International Standards Board for Qualified Patent Information Professionals.

He has an academic background in Information and Knowledge Management from the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt (Germany), a Master’s degree in Information Science from the University of Granada (Spain) and a PhD in the field of scientometric patent analysis. Furthermore, he is involved in the research group SCIMAGO dedicated to open source data visualization and innovation metrics and has published several articles about open source databases and patent landscaping (Nature Biotech, WPI, JISIB).
