CI_NewsWhat training options are available for Competitive Intelligence professionals? The options were introduced by five presenters at the “Education Day - Your Educational Options in Competitive Intelligence" held by the Swiss Competitive Intelligence Association (SCIA).

Forty people attended the half-day event that took place in Zurich on September 9, 2009, which received great feedback, since there are few opportunities where you can directly compare and consult with different educational providers.

The speakers included:

  • Bonny Hohhof, Editor of SCIP Magazin
  • Monika Giese, icoci
  • Dr. Stefan Schuppisser, Head of the Center for Strategic Management at Zurich University of Applied Sciences - School of Management and Law
  • Tony Nagel, Academy of Competitive Intelligence
  • and Rainer Michaeli, Director of the Institute for Competitive Intelligence GmbH

Michaeli’s presentation focused upon the specific role of the body of knowledge developed by SCIP for competitive intelligence practitioners. Following the two-year project, a task force at SCIP defined seven knowledge domains with a total of 81 associated competencies

Managing the Competitive Intelligence Function

1. Design & Manage Competitive Intelligence Function
2. Implement Needs Assessment & Manage Client Relationships
3. Promote & Incorporate Competitive Intelligence throughout the organization

Implementing Competitive Intelligence Tasks

4. Manage Competitive Intelligence Projects
5. Conduct Intelligence Collection & Manage Information Resources
6. Conduct Intelligence Analysis and Delivery Processes

Managing the Evolution of Competitive Intelligence Competency Domain

7. Advance the Evolution of the Competitive Intelligence Function, Competitive Intelligence Skill Sets and the Competitive Intelligence Profession

One of the aims of this ”body of knowledge“ is to provide a guideline for developing teaching plans for training and further education institutions. In his presentation, Michaeli compared the workshops offered by the Institute for Competitive Intelligence against this guideline. All in all the ICI workshops more than fulfil the guidelines set by SCIP’s body of knowledge.
